Hundreds of vendors have put up their stalls at famous Sunday Market in the heart of the city, attracting customers from different parts of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, where majority shops and business establishments are open and traffic plying normally.
However, pre-paid mobile and internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) remained suspended since August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35 A, besides divide the state into two Union Territories (UT) evoking spontaneous strike for more than three months.
Three former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti besides ex minister and legislators and stone pelters are among several hundred people detained for the past 139 days.
The famous over 3-km-long Sunday Market from Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) to Hari Singh High Street (HSHS), including Regal chowk,Gantaghar, Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city and Amira Kadal was crowded by customers, including women and children since this morning despite chilly weather condition on the second day to Chilai Kalan, the 40 day coldest period of winter. Hundreds of vendors have put up their stalls on both sides of theroad, mostly selling warm and woolen cloths besides shoes to carpet.
Majority shops and business establishments are also open despite Sunday. Transport was also plying on all routes in Srinagar and outskirts.
Similar reports were also received from other parts of the Kashmir valley, where people were observing strike since August 5. However,after over three months, shopkeepers were functioning in the morning for few hour for about a months. Later, life returned to normal with all business establishments functioning normally in the valley, including Srinagar.
